Hey guy, I'm building a new system to start gaming and streaming (on the same system) and was wondering if a 1070ti and i5 8400 was in any way a good fit for streaming, I've also paired it with a z370 as I will be looking at some over clocks on the processor. Any advice would be highly appreciated, thanks.

8400 doesnt support overclock, you need the more expensive 8400k and still you could get a R5 1600/2600 and have double the amount of Threads for less money adn we talking way less

8600K* 8400k doesnt exist and yes the 8600k is technically the same as the 8400, just with an unlocked sku.聽 As to op, @Kudoss, what's your budget and have you purchased anything yet? I'd recommend waiting for the new gpus if you can.

He is using a Nvidia card, so he can just use the built in streaming capabilties without any added stress on his machine. The difference between using Nvidia Stream and something like OB is pretty minimal these days. You just need slightly higher upload to get good results from Nvidia Stream.

Definitely go with the AMD Ryzen 2600 for budget streaming. Though the AMD Ryzen 1700 might also be quite cheap.

TBH it is mostly up to you. Honestly as long as you get something than can boost over 4ghz with at least 6 cores you should be fine. If you are going to be using encoding software then you might lean more towards the 8 core r7's, but a 6 core intel should still do the job. If you are trying to go for a non-k intel then I would look at the 8500 personally. There isn't a huge price markup and you get higher boost clocks.

Now there is a case here for wanting an i7 for the hyper-threading, but if you do not have the budget for it then I would probably go with a 6 core ryzen and save some money and also get the hyper-threading they offer.

If you do go ryzen make sure you get ddr4-3000mhz or higher ram. Also understand that if you go Ryzen you will probably see lower max frame rates, but that shouldn't be a huge issue as you aren't going to be streaming at 144 fps in most cases regardless.

So in the end I would probably go with something like the R5-2600x. 6 cores with a 4.2ghz boost and hyper-threading capabilities.

I would do something like this. You might consider a x470 board for better chances of supporting the 2600x out of the box, but if this motherboard does have the older bios and doesn't boot.. you can request a boot kit from them which will get you far enough to update the bios.

1070ti is a bad performance/$ imo, the 1080 is almost the same in au (it's almost cheaper than most 1070tis in na)聽for better performance :Phttps://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/KC648d/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-8gb-amp-edition-video-card-zt-p10800c-10p

I agree with you, but I went with the 1070ti because that is what the OP mentioned in his post.

Also you are comparing a Zotac to a EVGA card. So if we look at pricing of 647vs 699聽 that is about an 8% difference in price. The performance difference between a 1080 and 1070ti is only about 10%. So being from a much better manufacture with a better warranty (3 years vs 2. No questions asked replacements and transferable warranty) I would say the price/performance is pretty much spot on.
