Hey Guys, I have an old Intel Pentium 4 desktop computer and the Pentium 4 is a bit slow and I want to upgrade the processor to a 2+GHz Intel core 2 duo socket 478, I can find some core 2 duo processors but they all have the die exposed and my CPU cooler wont fit on it securely.

If you are wondering what the motherboard looks like for any reason its here; https://microdream.co.uk/dell-optiplex-170l-tower-0u2575-u2575-socket-478-motherboard.html#.W2cOG4lKjIU

I would like the processor to ideally be on amazon or eBay because I don't do the newegg or craigslist stuff.

If you do find a CPU that would be ideal please paste the link....

Thanks in advance :)

There are no socket 478 Core 2 Duos. Only LGA 775 supports C2D.

I think you need to scrap that machine, from what I've found this socket comes from around 2000 making it 18 years old.

I still think you should scrap it now, you can't sell it since it's worthless so just put in the skip. Try and find a used office pre-built from Ebay if you still want a machine to mess around with.

Try and save at least £100 to get one.

I know I'm not supposed to do this but just to show you that they can be found I'll like you to a machine that I found...

its a 12 year old pc

The earliest CPU's that were on this socket were from 2000, this socket was defunct around 2004 when LGA 775 replaced it.

You've got one of the later 2004 chips, researching this socket reveals that socket 478 chips were produced up until 2006 but of course were disgustingly slow as Intel were more interested in making LGA 775 chips.
