Should I add another card or upgrade

UhhZach

So my current build is an I5 3750k @ 4.0Ghz, 970 G1 gaming, 16gb DDR3 ram, 240gb m.2, 1tb WD blue, with a fractal 240mm liquid cooler in an H440. I recently purchased a 1440p ultrawide and want to be able to run games at that resolution on max or similar settings on games like GTA V and PUB G and I think I should upgrade my GPU. I can't decide whether I should upgrade to a 1070 or 1060 6gb or find another matching 970 and run them in an SLI configuration, which would only run me about 200 dollars whereas a new card could run me 300 or 400 dollars. What should I do?

better get 1070ti or 1080 because of the price. 970 SLI adds another 150w power draw and SLI support is hit or miss in other games, while 1070 is just 10% cheaper than 1070ti and 1080 which are 15-20% faster.

970 SLI won't work.

1060 isn't that much of an upgrade.

The 1070 is a good choice, but even better would be a 1070Ti. A bit more expensive but it's price - performance is better.

I don't know why everyone is being so cynical about SLI 970. Sure in some games you won't see much of a benefit but in others you will and it is so much cheaper than buying a new current gen card. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2246-gtx-970-sli-vs-gtx-980-ti SLI is unpredictable in how it performance scales game to game but given you already have a 970 I wouldn't say it was a bad option for the price. Not saying that getting a 1070 won't be a better option, I just wouldn't rule out getting a second 970

Given the games he mentioned I wouldn’t. But as I have cards in that performance range, I would still use them.

Conpared to a 1080, they are better at what I used them for. But on a 1440, I use my 1080. Isn’t too great on pubg but I expect a lot from flagships. Kind of a letdown really, but it’s gonna be way better than a 970.
