Building a server for storage & hosting games

I'm building a server for hosting games like; Eldewrito (Halo 3 for PC), Minecraft, Gmod, and Possibly CS:GO.

But also for just storing my videos.  I'm sure a 5,400 RPM is fine for that purpose.

Here are the specs for said build:

Thanks.

It might be worth it to buy a used xeon server instead.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

I've been flipping used Xeon servers from about 2010-2011 (LGA1366) and if you can get a good deal on a dual X5650 server for a good price, it's more worth it with an added bonus of novelty. They can go around 200-300 USD if you can find a good deal. They perform 2x better for half the price of the system that you've listed. You can look around /r/homelabs or other places for advice or research before diving in.

As for purchasing a server like this, you can look on eBay, Craigslist or /r/homelabsales for something like a R710 or R610 or on the HP side, a DL360 G7 or anything that ends with a G7 (7th Generation)

^, Any OEM system manufacturers like Dell or HP will offer this (with iDRAC and iLO respectively) and will allow you to remotely access your server to do reboots or anything you can physically - except changing hardware of course.

Do you have a motherboard you can recommend me?  I'd like to stay with a Micro ATX just because I found a really nice case for me, but I have the option to go to a bigger ATX

OEM Servers usually have a custom form factor for their motherboards, if you're going that route, you'd have to buy a complete used system as most of the components are proprietary except the CPU, RAM and PCI-E add-in cards
