So I'm at the local hardware store all the damn time for one reason or another... I always find myself looking at the tubing they have and ponder using it for a custom water loop thing. I esp find myself looking at the water softening tubes ect ect. Does anyone know if I can actually use these in a custom water loop build with out running into any major malfunctions. I love the metalic meshing they have and thing it would make my system build look robotic af.

You would need to source ones that are specifically G1/4" threaded as that is the standard used on watercooling gear these days but it is possible as long as the liner inside is teflon or a plastic that will not leech into the fluid.

You can get stainless mesh separate for sleeving or even a metallic looking plastic mesh to go over the tubing.

Thanks @W-L, I really didn't wanna go ghetto with straight up water softening tubing from the local hardware shop!!! I have to peep this stainless mesh stuff out.

For the sleeving you would still go with soft tubing but you must get tubing that won't leech any plasticers, some good options are Primochill advance LRT, Mayhems Ultra clear and EKWB's EPDM black tubing.

@W-L ..I was actually wondering about asking my brewing friends who distill and all sorts of stuff if I can get some glass and metal coils for this build along with the meshing. I haven't checked to see if its okay to use nickle and copper or brass metals together, but I know their are issues with aluminum and nickle or copper in a water loop.

Are you planning to put them in the fluid like the reservoir itself? Nickel, brass, and copper are all very compatible with each other inside a loop, note that for nickel you have to make sure you don’t use something like a silver kill coil or copper sulfate based biocides.

For coils on tubing they make anti-kink coils that wrap around the outside.
