High temps on a pretty old cpu

Hello,

I have a pretty old computer with an i5 - 4570 in it with a stock cooler. Games used to run fine, until for some reason my cpu started reaching 100 degrees celsius and the computer just turned off. I tried cleaning my computer, even disassembling it all, cleaning it, then putting it back together. It didn't help. What do I do? Do I buy some new thermal paste and try to reapply it?

 

Specs:

intel i5-4570

stock intel cooler

msi r9 280x

16 gb ddr3 ram

If the paste was as old as the CPU then yes, replace it. The stock paste was already kinda poor anyway.

re apply the thermal paste, and while your doing that also reseat the CPU that might help slightly as well. Also make sure the coolers fan is working (I imagine it is, but you never know)
