I'm not very familiar with many schools that use Apple computers. Many students and teachers did, but not the school itself. It was a recommendation but not required. They did have an iPad program though for the younger students. They network and server itself was Windows-based.

I would use this as a basis for an investigation, your null hypothesis being schools do not prefer to use Apple laptops and your alternative hypothesis being schools prefer Apple laptops and undertake some research yourself. I don't think there will be many articles.

This article contains a little bit of data, but really investigating it yourself would be a lot better, and you would learn more. For a start it is not very concise.

Now I'm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but from psychological standpoint, it's all about habits and early experience.

If something is your first experience and you learn to use it, it's very difficult to switch to something else, even if it's better.

For example, if you use Apple laptop in your early days in elementary school, it's very unlikely that in high-school or university you will say 'Hey, maybe I should switch to Linux or Windows", not because they are superior or inferior compared to Mac, but because you are used to Mac and Apple understands this and for that reason would even

donate whole computer labs to elementary schools and also gain great PR with that.

Back when I was in elementary and middle school in Texas, they had Apple computers everywhere. The teachers got MacBooks, the students could use the MacBook Pros they had in appropriate scenarios (once I actually found the intro video for Snow Leopard on a school laptop), there were various iMacs (going back to the G5) and there were even a few iBook G4s floating around.

Shouldn't you have researched what sort of sources were available before picking a topic?

One major reason for Apple products in schools is that Apple heavily discounts for educational purposes. They've done that for years, long before their recent market dominance as a high end consumer electronics company. They were common in schools in the 90s, when Apple was barely surviving as a company.

You’re a bit younger than me by a few years I think. I never thought I’d have to say that to Dan Castelnella but there we go.

My elementary and middle schools all had mostly Macs too and apparently when my mom was in elementary during the 80s they had Macs then too.

My highschool had a few Macs but it was mostly PCs.

For operational use in primary education and even higher ed, Macs do have a good place. But Windows can fill the same role.

Well, do they?

Most (from my experience), my previous school was full of iMacs, some students accommodations also provide study room full of iMacs.

In term of variety of software, to be honest most PC (Windows) would be more ideal. Though when I asked most users, they replied...

  • No viruses (kinda BS, there's less malware, Mac can still be infected)
  • Easier to use (it goes back to the user really, people who grow up with Windows/Linux still need to learn OS X)
  • Trend
  • Asymmetric information (lack of information, they just wanted the easy way, they don't really know much about other brand)
  • Simpler yet effective software (true in a way, like Final Cut Pro, etc.)

Using Apple product for education usually yields a discount as well, so some opt with that.

I think it's a combination of a few "myths" (if you will) about Apple products:

  • They last a long time
  • They don't get viruses
  • They're easy to use
  • There's great service
  • There's great syncing across devices

My old elementary school was a huge fan of Apple products and had this giant stock of the shittiest MacBooks around that they'd purchased only a few years ago. If only they'd spent their money a bit more carefully and bought better configurations...

They always buy the base model, too, and it's always shitty. Having to choose between MacBooks and Chromebooks in the 8th grade was just terrible.

i think you should write the report depending on the area you are in because each area and each country both have different ways of thinking and prefferences.

Apple is the computer for the computer illiterate. Thats why schools buy them.
