Any Problems when swapping sata ports?

On some PC build guide I've heard that you are not supposed to occupy sata ports 0 or 1 when using an M.2 drive. I am planning on buying a 970 evo or some other NVME ssd in the future, and i have either one or both of my drives occupying sata ports 0 and/or 1. Is it OK if i just unplug the cable and move it to another unused sata port like 2 or 3?

@SnowCells The answer is its fine to do that but u shouldnt have a problem occupying the ports.

 

I have a NVME drive, all 6 ports occupied and a 2 Port Sata III Card and all works well.

It depends on your motherboard. Some motherboards m.2 slots share bandwidth with the sata ports. Populating the m.2 slot may disable one or more sata ports. If you have more than one m.2 slot on the board, there may be one that shares bandwidth with the sata ports and one which doesn't.

 

You will need to check your motherboard manual to see which ports are disabled when which m.2 slots are populated.

That's fine to do. You will need to plug them in to whichever ports your motherboard states are available when the m.2 slot is occupied.
