DH57JG not accepting keyboard input during post

I am 90% sure the R9 380 is fine. My RX 580 had the same symptoms as the 380 did when I plugged it in. All the issues seems to have been from the CPU being incompatible.

For what it's worth, "officially" that board will only support up to 87W CPU's - that i7 is a 95W CPU.

Although I know the chipset supports it, Intel could easily have locked that board down to only support i3's and i5's. Here's the official cpu support list for the board: http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=DH57JG

The board has no official support for any kind of quad core CPU; the highest is the i5-661. I'm sorry to say I've never tested it personally but you may need to get a different board if you're set on a quad core.

As in the Title, I've got a Intel DH57JG and during post I am unable to enter the Boot menu options. I should be able to just hit F10 but when I do I get a Beep from the speaker and nothing happens.

I had one of those for a while. Touchy as hell. I eventually just sold off the board because there were too many weird quirks.

Have you checked the BIOS configuration jumper to make sure it's making clean contact? Also, this is going to sound ridiculous but I actually had to do it, if you have some way of connecting a USB to something other than the motherboard USB ports (i.e., a PCIe add-in card or spare front panel USB device with a port on it), it might actually work through there and not the back. Yes, that happened.

Finally, of course, would be going into BIOS and manually changing the boot order. I ended up having to do that more than once because the POST behavior of my board was so, so weird.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

She just beeps at any keyboard input. The manual says it will beep once very shortly when it is ready to accept input, after that I cant hit a key and nothing happens. If I keep trying or plug in another USB device, it will beep at any key that is pressed.

Are you using a PS/2 keyboard or a USB one?

Have you attempted to clear the CMOS yet?

If the bios has been set to disable legacy usb devices it won't accept input from usb keyboards during POST.

No PS/2 port exists on the board.

Trying to clear CMOS now.

Legacy is disabled as far as I can tell but there is no other way to give keyboard input other than USB

Sorry, didn't check the manual first for the port layout, I was just spitballing. On page 51 of the manual, apparently there's a jumper setting that forces the machine to boot straight to CMOS where you should be able to make whatever changes you need.

Moving the jumper seems to have had no effect

It boots to this screen and just stays there.

I've tried it with both my Apple Keybaord and my Logitech G610 Orion. I don't have anything older. After a while either of the two will just make the board beep.

Try just absolutely mashing F2 the entire time, from the point you press the power button, assuming the jumper is now in the configuration mode position suggested on page 51 of the manual (pins 2 and 3)

Also, sorry to say it, but do you have another keyboard you could test it with?

If this doesn't work, it's possible you may have luck by reflashing the bios using recovery mode. This is done by removing the jumper entirely, downloading the latest bios file (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20583/BIOS-Update-JGIBX10J-86A-), and placing the *.bio file on an otherwise blank, FAT32 formatted USB flash drive. The recovery process should be automatic.

Edit: it took me ages to get the right bios link so I started writing this before someone else suggested another keyboard and you replied. I'd recommend trying the recovery option now, assuming you have a space USB flash drive lying around you don't mind formatting for it.

Edit2: here's the official guidance instructions in case you need it, but it's basically "download the file to usb, make sure jumper is removed and boot the machine with it connected and wait for 5 mins. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005630/boards-and-kits.html?wapkw=bios+recovery

I believe that when the system detects no boot drive it goes into configuration mode. The screen is the same if the jumper is on either set of pins.

I'm trying to source one, but I don't have anything older than my G610 Orion other than my 2011 Apple Keyboard which was in the video.

I updated my post after you posted about that, I was looking into it on the intel site. Try the suggestion I mentioned in my edit and see if it improves the situation - 0663 is the newest bios for the board you have, from roughly 2011.

When you work in repair, you only ever see them at their worst. I see terrible computers all the time, and outside of outright hardware failures, I can almost always point the finger at the user for mistreating their machine.

Not that I ever tell them that of course.

Give it 10 mins at least; the guide was updated last year, but this is an older board. This is meant to be a failsafe recovery method that works even if the BIOS chip on the board is completely blank, but I still don't want you left with a board in a worse state than it was in when you got it.

After 15-20 minutes, if nothing has changed, restart the machine and try going into the bios again - or re-attempt the recovery process if nothing else works.

According to Intel https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005500/boards-and-kits.html

5A means "Resetting PATA/SATA bus and all devices".

Are any cd/dvd drives or hard disks connected to the board right now? If there are any hard disks, have they been checked for consistency on a known-working machine? Any other non-essential devices?

Try disconnecting any SATA/PATA devices and see if the POST code changes.

Edit: Also worth noting that apparently Intel boards will go to keyboard detection directly after post code 5A (above). Perhaps the machine has a bad SATA port or hard drive?

The system had been sitting doing nothing for a solid 30min so I shut it down.

Turned it on after unplugging the HDD and I still have the same screen I posted a pic of.

Is it still stuck at Post Code 5A as well? Did you also remember to reconnect the jumper and remove the USB stick?

Just realised I didn't even mention you should try that. My bad. Try it now if you can.
