ubuntu viewport error

been trying for about 3 hours to fix the viewport resolution not matching actual screen resolution and had no luck on getting it sorted on the ubuntu forums and that was after trying for about 1 hour to get drivers installed
running ubuntu 18.04 lts

viewport wont go higher than 960x540, resolution is 1680x1050

 

maybe im just doing it wrong i dont know

What hardware and drivers?

Do not use the supplied drivers from NVIDIA but use Ubuntus packs manager to install them, this is optimal because it's verified to work with the userland

tried that and no luck, still same thing

Did you delete your configs after installing the package and have you attempted to mess around with xrandr?

yes and yes, manually edited xrandr to the right resolution, doing anything other than looking at the scren causes it to crash

I would suggest if its a fresh install to reinstall and use only the drivers supplied by ubuntu. If it isn't and this is a new gpu did it work correctly before you installed the nvidia drivers?

with the default drivers, only 2 of the 3 screens i have light up but are on full resolution, with the nvidia drivers from ubuntu still same thing, and honestly im just wanting to try out some sort of linux system
