Hey all! It's been quite some time that I've delved into hardware and so I'm looking for some help. My son is 11 years old and I want to give him his first gaming PC. Currently his main game of interest is Fornite. I'm looking to build a decent budget PC ($700-800 USD), something that will last him for at least 2-3 years. My only "requirement" is that it uses Intel. I've got the peripherals, monitor and OS taken care of.

I put this together:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor  ($178.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: *Gigabyte - B360M DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($65.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 Memory  ($169.04 @ Newegg)
Video Card: *MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB Video Card  ($274.98 @ Newegg Business)
Case: Cooler Master - MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case  ($45.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: *Corsair - TXM Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $769.87
Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-07-19 22:57 EDT-0400

CPU: i5-4690K @ 3.50GHz Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 2x8GB DDR3-1866 GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4 GB Twin Frozr V SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 256GBx2 [RAID 0] (main boot drive), Samsung 840 Pro 512GBx4 [RAID 0] PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650 W 80+ Gold Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black)

No I have some extra peripherals and a monitor that I would be giving down to him. I'm mainly just looking for build advice.

That "requirement" makes no sense but here you go...

Storage and case is up to you.

I've had AMD builds before and I was just never happy with them. Maybe AMD is a lot better now. My last AMD build was a 1090T (its currently my Plex server) and I just felt it struggled a lot. But by all means if you really feel more strongly to AMD than Intel, please provide a build of your choosing.

Many, many ways to skin a cat haha. I hear you though about AMD; I tried an AMD build this year, nothing but headaches. I'm sure they're well on their way to having an excellent system, but it's just not mature enough for me right now. With Intel, I plug it in, and it works. That's how it should be at launch, not trying to find which memory producer a certain RAM stick is from 9_9
