Hello,

My friend has $1,000 usd budget to build a video editing rig.  He is only interested in video editing for youtube videos currently.  AFAIK it is mainly his travel vlogs.  He does not really game much, but it is always a possibility

Do you think AMD or Intel has better optimization with adobe premiere?  He has no interest in overclocking so would it be better for him to get the best cpu he can get and run off intel igpu or get a moderate processor and try to squeeze in a gtx 1070 for gpu acceleration? Possibly a mix of ryzen and 1070? I do not know the real world differences with or without gpu acceleration combined with stock ryzen.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Id probalby go with a 2700x here and a gtx 1050.

For premiere a 1070 is way overkill and won't give much improvement in most workloads compared to a 1050.

Id make sure to get a ssd as the edit drive and 16gb or more of ram

We live near a microcenter so we are planning on the 480gb ssd for $70 and a 4tb from seagate for mass storage.

Will most 16gb ram sets work with the ryzen boards now? I was planning on picking up the cheapest set I could find at microcenter.

yep most ram will work fine, but if you want the highest ram speeds, its still a bit picky.

Those drives look fine.

I think as long as he isn't editing anything above 1080p 30 as mentioned by Electronics Wizardy a gtx1050 and 2700x could serve you well.

Currently the best processor for that is the 8700k, now I know I am going to get a ton of flak for saying that, but it's due to a clever move by Intel to use the IGPU to accelerate such work loads as shown in the included video. Also I would throw that in with a 1060 3GB or a 1060 6GB.

ryzen 7 1800x for 220$ and an rx 580 8gb as linus said in his do you need a quadro and a xeon video. get 16gb of ram.

that only helps in specifc export tasks. It won't improve editing at all. Id take better editing performance over slightly faster h264 exports any day.
