Hi there, I am new to the forums. I live in Trinidad which is in South America/ The Caribbean. I work at a telecommunications company as an Internet Helpdesk Technician. I saw some videos by Linus & requested assistance with it, which led to someone directing me here. I hope to meet & make new friends here.

As mentioned in the title, I have an Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard & I am in the process of building a new rig. The thermal armor is the only thing not allowing me to finish the rig. The mobo guide recommends that the GPU be placed in a specific PCI-E slot when being used alone. The problem is that regarding the slot in question, the thermal armor is obstructing the lever that would be used to lock the card into place. Also the armor would not allow the card I currently have, to be used anywhere other than one of the other PCI-E slots at the end of the board which is really used for SLI of Crossfire. It just physically will not fit anywhere else. I am buying a new card soon, but my problem is immediate as I need to get the new rig operational in a timely manner in order to get back doing what I do, Additionally the mini fans (40mm If I am not mistaken), do not seem to be able to be mounted with the armor as it is now.

I need some assistance please.

Thanks in advance.

Only familiar with the board from marketing material and such - but can you not actually remove the thermal armor? That may solve your problem.

I wonder if something else is wrong - as far as I know, that fan is supposed to be mounted with the armor to blow cooling air underneath. If that cannot even fit, sounds like your armor isn't on properly, esp if it is block something liek the PCIe locking mechanism.

No I can't, unfortunately. I used some of the parts from my old machine in addition to the new ones so it is down & the netbook I am using now is running Ubuntu & my C195 is recognized but I cannot install the software to get access to the pictures. I am currently using a Zotac Nvidia 9500GT. I suspected I might have to remove the thermal armor but I can't find a video on how to do this & I do not see anything about it in the manual. If someone can guide me, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance,

I don't own and never have owned a Sabertooth board; however, looking at some pictures and this video (it's a P67 but i assume the mounting won't have changed that much), it seems that it's just held on by a couple screws. Turn the board over so it's facing down and have a look on the PCB for any screw heads which could be removed.

YOU DARE DEFY ME THERMAL ARMOR? After 2+ days of grappling with the beast, my new rig is up. I just booted up, no warning system beeps. I was informed that as this is the 1st boot I should enter setup. I am in the BIOS now, but have to leave for work. I took pics & when I get back home & install Windows + Ubuntu, then stress test to see if everything is OK, I will post the pics. Thanks again! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I had not built a machine since the one I was using up to two days ago (which I have been running for about 4 years now) & it felt good to know that I did not need to get someone else to put together this one for me. When I get home from work, I will take the thermal armor to a nearby river & attach two cement blocks to it, blasted thing. Gratitude again, to you all.

P.P.S. Things have really changed over the years, this new BIOS accepts input from the mouse. I feel like an old man.

The armor looks cool but I wont buy this board because of these kinds of reasons. Glad to hear you solved your probem tru3b0rn

Just wanted to show you guys that I am up & running.

When I get a chance to install the camera & organize all the photos on it, I will upload pics of the inside of the rig.

Thanks a lot again for everything.
