Hey all,

the new MacBooks just dropped with 8th gen intel processors however AMD only recently started to role out their laptop processors in the past few months apple have been a bit late to the party on processor drops the last few years i mean theyre only now putting out 8th gen machines now almost 8 months after initial launch.

I was reading the tech news the other day and came across some people speculating at a end of year update to the rest of the mac line including a replacement for the MacBook air aimed as a sub £1k "budget" device and that got me thinking AMD typically have lower prices per the intel equivalent and Apple and intel have a good relationship they use them for all and dedicated graphics such as the vega 64 cards in iMac Pro. I wonder if this new "budget" MacBook and possibly even the rumoured update to the mac mini would get the ryzen treatment? Ive been wanting to get into using Ryzen for the last year or so since launch but since im so dependant on MacOS that has not been a possibility. i mean i did consider building a "ryzentosh" but since its not officially supported there's a lot of loopholes to jump though to get to that stage.

Would anyone else be intrested in a ryzen based mac?

I lurk a lot

No, but then again, I'm not interested in Apple products.

They tend to be more efficient so if it means they can actually hold their clocks -coughs- they would be better than Intel.

Apple and Intel have likely signed an agreement to use Intel in the Macbooks though. A lot of consumers just go for the i7 sticker without knowing what it means

That's an F in the profile pic

I feel like that agreement must be up for renewal soon as theyve been useing intel for 12 years now i would really like to see some form of mac with ryzen in it even if it is the budget end macbook i guess they just have the be cearful to not to cannibalise themselves my making a cheaper laptop with as much power as the macbook pro. theyre already on that edge now as if you did splash £6k on the new macbook pro 15" with the i9 some of the benchmarks have acutally been better than the low end iMac Pro

I lurk a lot
