Hey guys, new builder here. I've recently gotten heavily into PC gaming, and was wanting to build my own system. I've settled on a parts list, and yes, I know it's a bit pricy, but this will be my birthday present to myself, and I was wanting some input regarding parts. It's an MATX build, as I want something that isn't too hard to move around, and fits easily on my desk.

Here's the link to the parts list:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2riRK

and if you don't want to click it, here's a layout

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k @3.5ghz

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i CLC

Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Gene MATX LGA1150

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro (red) 16GB (2x8) 1600mhz

Storage: 1 Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD, 1 WD Caviar Black 2TB HDD

GPU: ASUS Geforce GTX 780 DC2 3GB

PSU: Corsair AX 760w

Case: Corsair 350D Micro ATX (windowed)

OS: Windows 7 64bit OEM

Of course, I also want to add a bit of bling to it, though whether through red LED strips or through LED fans, eh, well, I haven't gotten that far yet. But any thoughts on this build? :3

a 4770K and 16GB RAM is overkill. Also, read my thoughts on case lighting in my sig.

I do want to note that I plan on this build lasting me quite a few years. >.< So I'm trying to plan ahead a bit.

Lend me your crystall ball.

I mean, you can keep as it is if you will record and edit videos. But only for gaming... id say you could safely remove 8gb of ram and get cheaper hard drive. Also lower wattage psu, corsair (non cx) xfx or seasonic 650 - 700w

I think he wants a red and black themed build. I like the 290 Crossfire tho.

It's a good build but I don;t think that he will notice any difference between that i7 and i5, in gaming. also, two 290s will be a lot better than one 780ti even though I would wait till asus or gigabyte will release their coolers

I guess we're totally disregarding his color scheme then? I could make mine a lot cheaper then :P

with a few led strips and those fans, even if he would get a green motherboard the build will look good

O.o I come back from work and have quite a few build suggestions. Nice, and thanks! Though yes, I am wanting a black and red color theme. >.< The general concensus is to go down to 8GB of RAM and drop down to a 4670k, but go for a 780Ti instead. Hmm. I still have a few months before I fully decide. (Still saving the money) so ill keep an eye on things.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could optimize the cooling in this case for best performance? I'm trying to stick to Corsair/ASUS brands, as they've shown to be pretty good hardware wise. I'm thinking of two 140mm fans in front, the 120 in the back, and maybe have the fans for the H100i in push, and exhausting through the radiator?

(Bear in mind, I don't know much about building, as this will be my first true build, and this parts list is only after a few weeks of research) any advice?

The 350D is hardly small. It's large for a micro atx tower and is as large as some mid towers.

Corsair fans are quite mediocre and it's not worth spending big bucks on a cpu cooler when what your'e doing is gaming.

If you're not buying soon, plan later. Parts and prices change frequently and any parts list you come up with now will likely be irrelevant by the time you actually buy.

  • 1 month later...

Ok guys, back again with an updated parts list. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2G4Ts

I'm trying to stay under my $2,000 budget limit. What are your thoughts on this revised build?

(Also, I have been thinking of getting an H105, but from what I've read, it won't fit in the top of the case, which means I'd have to put it in the front of the case, thereby taking away the supplied HDD and SSD caddies. any thoughts for alternate places to put the drives?)

You can get an adapter and put the hdd in a 5.25" bay. The ssd can likely be velcroed to the underside of the motherboard plate.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
