Suggestions for $2.2k gaming/general use build

Don't blow $150 into fans. The case comes with fans.

Spend the money on graphics card or cpu instead.

As others have mentioned, there really is no need to spend nearly US$150 on fans. The two that come with the case are quite sufficient for the build. But if you want something a touch quieter, nothing wrong with replacing them with two ML fans.

The Seasonic Focus Plus gold psu is as good or better than the RMx and currently less expensive.

There is generally no need for additional thermal compound. CPU coolers come with a pre-applied pad or a tube of material.

The i7-8700 can fit in the budget. Other than at idle, its clocks are only 100 MHz lower than the i7-8700K.

The H7 is quieter and cooler than the Hyper 212 Evo.

Thank you all for the suggestions.  My thinking with the fans was that the two fans wouldn't be enough for airflow, and it kind of spiraled out of control from then on.  I will post my new list after I made some changes.  Thanks :)

Updated the link, changed to an i7, changed CPU cooler, and reduced to two fans to replace the stock fans.

Peetzerpony's build is pretty good, but good God 800 on the monitor?  You could get two 27 inch msi magix 144hz curved monitors for 500 and put the extra 300 into a VR headset.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

You will want a better cooler as that cpu runs very hot. The H7 is a decent one but for the 8700K I would want something high end such as a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4.

That board has had issues in the past. Probably fixed by now, but you could easily save by going with an ASRock Z370 Extreme 4 instead.

You are overpaying for that gpu. Some 1080's are less money.

The Fractal Design Meshify C has better airflow due to the mesh front, and is basically the same case as the Define C. It is the same price as well.

A 550W psu is enough.

Thanks for the reply!  As for your first post, I prefer the case I have due to the simplistic design, and I'm only getting the 750W PSU because it is only $10 more than the 550W PSU, and it leaves a lot more room for expansion.  I will definitely look into getting a better air cooler though.  Thanks :)

I changed to the i7-8700 since I don't plan on overclocking, so the cooler should now be enough.  I know I can get a cheaper motherboard since I won't be overclocking, but I prefer to stick with this one.

it's a huge waste of money to spend $270 on a 240mm AIO and expensive Z370 board just to pair it with a locked i7, just get a cheap B360 board and cryorig M9i instead and use the money on parts that'll give you an actual performance boost.

It doesnt matter if you overclock. The K comes with 500MHz higher base clock of 3.7 vs 3.2.

I would agree that just getting a nice case with good fans is better than a buttload of unnecessary fans.

Use the thermal compound pre applied on the cooler.

I  wouldnt buy an expensive GPU so late in the product cycle when prices are higher than release two years ago. Id wait for Turing personally. If you cant wait id still go for a cheaper 1070. Pascal is old now.

Id spend the $300 to get a 1TB Crucial MX500 personally. I got a 1TB MX200 back in 2016 and love havibg a big SSD for things like GTAV and ARK that have long load times.

This looks to be a really good build already after your edits. One thing to ask though. Do you really prefer a membrane keyboard? For the amount of money you're spending, you should probably get yourself a mechanical one.

How about this? Corsair STRAFE RGB

I actually thought it was a mechanical keyboard until yesterday, and I changed to the K70 MK.2, thanks though!!

It isn't though really, as there is a lot of wasted money in it. A locked cpu with a Z370 chipset and also an overpriced GTX 1070 ti.

So he is actually getting less but paying more for it. It is his money to spend though, so his decision.
