Hello, I am new to this forum thing so go easy on me :).

The thing is, I will have to get a laptop for school soon, specifically for a university degree in physics and astronomy so it may need to be able to handle some heavier programmes. I have browesed some LTT videos as I am a long time fan, but most laptop videos may be outdated now or are focussing mainly on a higher price category.

My budget is about 800 EUR ( just assume the same amount in dollars as tax differences and stuff sadly usually make up about the difference.)

A lighter model would definetly be very useful. Also a SSD, reasonable battery life, a 15" screen 1080p and reasonable keyboard would be huge plusses. Some light gaming possibility would be an added plus but not really necessary as I plan to build my own pc in the near future.

Thanks for the help in advance :)

Hey, welcome to the forum :)

Does your university provide a list of requirements for laptops or not? A list of required applications perhaps? Also, which country specifically? It can make a huge difference in what we can recommend sometimes.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Hi, the specific country is the Netherlands. The recommendations by the university are very minimal. The only requirements they list is 4GB ram and a dual band network card that supports both 2.4 and 5Ghz networks for fast WiFi. It says nothing on CPU or GPU requirements so I susspect the bare minimum required is not all that much, but I'd like to have a little more than the bare minimum, so maybe it is best to assume just the best laptop for productivity for that price with the priorities listed above.

Again, thank you for the help.
