Hi, I'm planning to use some Linux distro alongside Windows. Everything's fine and dandy except that the wireless chip on my mobo for Linux and other Unix-like systems. I have three other usb wifi dongles, and they're all acting up on anything other than Windows. I'm going for the safest and easiest option: connecting some wifi adapter through an ethernet cable. Now I'm not sure what it's called, but I found a few devices that might work this. So again, I have a router downstairs, and I want the adapter to connect to that one, and communicate with my computer through an ethernet cable.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Extender-External-Antennas-EX2700-100UKS/dp/B00NIUHAG6

What am I exactly looking for? Are any of these capable of doing what I want? Or they only work the other way around (eg. router to adapter through ethernet, adapter to pc through wifi)

If i understand what you are trying to find correctly, the links that you provided are not what you need. Those just extend your wifi radius from an outlet on the wall. I am pretty sure you are trying to find a wifi adapter for your computer that supports linux right? What distro are you using?

Your looking for a wireless bridge or Wireless Media bridge. They were designed to work with Smart TV's that did not have WiFi. I think there are a few on newegg still. You can also use a old router with DDWRT to make your own wireless bridge. Though the router has to be DDWRT capable.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Adding to what you said, You can check their router compatibility database if you have an old router laying around,

https://dd-wrt.com/support/router-database/

or you could perhaps buy an access point that has ethernet out ports on it.

https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-AC1200-Wireless-Access-WAC104-100NAS/dp/B01LFSDZCU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530737451&sr=8-3&keywords=access+point+ethernet

this could do but its a pricy solution and its probably not pratical either. did you say you have on board wifi? If so did you check if your pc is using the adapter or the onboard wifi?
