So after adding a 1080ti to my 3d design rig the other day, I realised that the 1050ti I was previously using to drive my monitors would fit under my titan x quite comfortably in the sabertooth x99's bottom slot.
Being a 3d nerd, I'm always for adding more render power. So I installed it, plugged my monitors into it and installed new drivers and went about testing it in blender.

This happened. But only when it went into 3d mode as I put blender into render viewport.

Each of the cards works by itself, and they all work in combinations of two of them, but it seems adding a third gives the system fits of some kind - an Nvidia control panel message of ")"
I'm fairly certain it isn't an overall wattage problem as blender cycles only eats about 6-700watts rendering with the titan and the 1080ti.
I am also not aware of any issues that would occur given the 1050ti being at 8x, whereas the other two are at 16x

Full system specs:
5960x @ 4.5gz
Sabertooth x99 (latest bios)
64gb ddr4
Top slot - 1080ti
second slot - titan x maxwell
third slot - 1050ti
AX1200i
Handful of SSD's and spinning rust drives. No PCIE drives though.

I've since taken it back out because well... I've got work to do - but I'd love some ideas as to what might be causing the issue.

That did it! It sings the song of its people no more.
Of course, now I worry that its just hidden a major issue that nvidia was trying to tell me about. Ah well.
Thanks!
