Can a pci-e 1x device (like a wireless adapter) go into a pci-e x16 slot?

Yes it will only use the pin connectors needed to run :P

Well skullbringer tell him i have a Sound Card seated in my PCE x16 slot from day one and the sound card works perfect..........

Actually, if I'm not wrong you an do it the other way also. You can have a graphics card in a 1x slot, but it would only perform at 1x. I've seen miners do it

Yes, you are right. It'll only operate in 1x, so it will be bandwidth limited, which luckily miners can get away with since bitcoin mining doesn't require bandwidth, only calculations.
