They're the same width, but at that point I'd rather also have the extra 360 pixels of height if I could.. 21:9 has never made a ton of sense to me, because it feels like it's just way too short.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Aren't these expensive as balls, though?

Rumored to be around $600 for the Dell version. The LG one is gonna be expensive! Even if they were like $700 I'd still buy one.

They're the same width...

This couldn't be further from the truth. The 21:9 monitors are usually 29 inches, while most of the 1440p monitors are 27 inches. Even if both sizes had the same aspect ratio, the 29" would be wider. In this case, the 21:9 monitor has an even wider profile, thus making the difference in width greater.

Because I am such a movie buff, I would probably enjoy the 21:9 monitor. But purely gaming, 16:9 or 16:10 all the way.

I've heard from a lot of people that 20:9 is far more enjoyable while gaming than 16:9. That's why I'm excited for these ultra wide 1440p panels coming out soon! 2560x1080 seems to narrow but having the same height as a 27" monitor is just gonna be amazing.

Having gamed at 1080p for a number of years and just upgraded to 1440p it's expensive to do but it really makes a huge difference. I find it more immersive because with 1440p comes the hardware to turn the bells and whistles on in a game, and at a larger scale you get more engrossed in the actions/scenery etc.

Not only this, but there's one setting that can actually be reduced the higher resolution you go. Anti-Aliasing was designed to get rid of the pixelated "jaggies" that are present on slightly angled edges. As you increase the resolution, these jaggies are less noticeable, and with 4K, I'm sure the jaggies are non-existent to the naked eye. I find that distant objects look better in BF4 with AA off on my 1440p screen.

I wouldn't ever go back to 1080p, I just miss the zero input lag of my ASUS. That, and my current Auria 1440p monitor has like 1" bezels.

EDIT: Typo

I was referring to pixel count. They're both 2560 pixels wide, meaning that the usable area is essentially the same. The larger screen just has larger pixels than the smaller one (95 ppi vs 108 ppi)..

Ahh, now I see what you meant. I thought you were referring to the physical width. I agree, real estate is less. Would be epic for movie watching though :)

In my area 2560x1080 is roughly £100-£120 cheaper, i ordered a Dell U2913WM 2 days ago and it is set to arrive on monday, it will mainly be used for gaming and movie viewing.

Many games i play actually do support 21:9 natively and not stretched either (Increased FoV :D)

My GTX 760 wouldn't be able to handle 1440p as it only has 2GB of VRAM (BF4 etc use about 1600MB on 1080p)

Even if a game i play doesn't support 21:9 [2560x1080] then i will play with black bars, it will be better than my current monitor as it is!

If the monitor arrives on monday I will post my impressions of it over 16:9 (only 1080p, can't compare to 1440p haven't seen it before.)

Just got the monitor 2 days ago and I must say the gaming experience is great!

I play games varying from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare to Counter Strike to BF4 and about 90-95% of my games support this, the only game i know doesn't support it in my library is hearthstone.

In games such as chivalry and BF4 you gain quite alot of FoV over 16:9 displays and this makes the gaming experience very immersive.

Most games (Other than skyrim with mods + 4K textures) were at 55FPS+, but skyrim with mods performed pretty badly at about 20-40FPS.
