I could use some advise

Hi, i'm in need of a new cpu, it needs to be a 6th generation intel because of my motherboard, and id like it to be good for gaming and maybe some streaming as well, any advise i was looking at the 6600k and the 6700k which are both nice but very expensive and id like to get the new cpu by the end of the summer, and i only work part time, and still need to save. So if anyone has some advise that would be very much appreciated.

Well, this will depend on your motherboard. So, we'll need that please.

Also, IIRC, the K series are for overclocking, whereas the normal ones don't OC so well.

So if you wanna save some dosh, go with a regular one.

IMO sell your old board and CPU and get a ryzen 1600+b350 Pro4, the prices for an i7 6700/7700 aren't worth it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Here is the list of supported CPUs for your mobo

Basically, decide on a price you are willing to spend, find the best i5/i7 (depending on budget) your money will allow, and buy that

Some folks don't have the time, expertise, or inclination to do a complete change-over.

a motherboard change isn't exactly difficult.

For someone who knows what they are doing, certainly. Just this morning I tried to help a guy try to figure out which end of his new GFX card should be plugged into his motherboard.....

no no don't replace your board, you have a Z170 after all which is great

SAVE and get the 6700k instead if you find one, the 7700k is at the same performance level but overheats more than the previous model

you can also overclock the 6700k to 4.2 and have the same or better performance than the 7700k, get a nice air cooler for it

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

if i were to be gaming but also maybe streaming at the same time, what would you say the minimum frequency could be?

Well, I have a core i3-6100, which is in the same gen as you are looking for, and I run a GTX 660 video card.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I do play Armoured Warfare on max settings and typically get 80 FPS and up.

I would wager, again, depending on budget, the core i5-6500 would do you nicely, and they are on ebay for about 125$, which I think is most reasonable.

The i7-6700, again on ebay, start at about 260$ (from reputable dealers in the USA) so you can see the jump in prices.

All depends on your budget, current video card, and expectations....
