These are the list of parts ive made, my friends helped me who say they know what they're talking about but id like some of you to review and help me out.   Will I be able to run most game smoothly with these parts? I mainly play action packed games like RPGs and first person shooters, looking to get into games like rust, day z, etc.

CPU - Intel core 17-8700k LGA1151 (300 series)

motherboard - MSI pro series LGA1151 ddr4 (b250 pc mate)

RAM - corsair vengeance LPX 16gb ddr4 2400

GPU - Nvidia geforce gtx 980 4gb gddr5

hard drive - WD blue 1tb sata 6gb/s 7200rpm 64mb

case - DIYPC X-W-RGB white steel / tempered glass ATX mid tower

power supply - corsair CX500 550w ATX12v 80 plus bronze certified

I have chosen a keyboard, mouse, etc... but I would like some advice on fans, I need 3 for the inside of my case to be sure I won't overheat, also a CPU fan.. I'm not sure which to choose or which are good. I would like them to be more on the quiet side though, also Id like to know if I'm missing anything or if I have everything necessary.

Thanks to all who help, I really appreciate it.

You won't be able to use a B250 board with an 8700K.

Get a Z370 board instead. Anything midrange to high end from Asus, Gigabyte, or Asrock would be a good option.

Something I also recommend is compiling these parts into PcPartPicker and making sure these are all compatible with one another so that you dont get the wrong chipset like @Crunchy Dragon mentioned above.

Incompatible chipset, you need a 300 series Intel chipset to run 8th gen CPUs.

Any B360, H310, H370, or Z370 board will work. Since you're getting an unlocked CPU, you might as well get a Z370 board as well.

The motherboard may have the same socket, but needs to have the same chipset and core logic to function properly.

thank u so much, saved me a lot of money haha, what would you classify as mid- ranged price for the z370? are the $200 ones low range because i see some of them are very pricey.

Around 200 USD is midrange for Z370.

I have an MSI Z370 Gaming Plus, and I'm very pleased with it's features and functionality. Find it Here.

$200 is midrange to high end. Not enough for the best boards, but definitely enough to work with.

This case has no airflow, I'd change it. I mean, there are 3 fans in the front, but I dont see any holes for air to get in.

Cool, in that case you will need a cooler for you CPU to get any significant results.
I personally using AIO, but I would recommend using biggest Noctua heatsink you can fit in your case.
For case fans, maybe 4? 3 front and 1 rear.

good, because that motherboard is bad for any overclocking with a 6 core CPU. There is no debug LEDs or post code display. there is basic (even lacking) VRM design with bad VRM cooling, and there isnt any CMOS reset button so it's necessary to keep a screwdriver around to short the CMOS reset pins.

yeah, so please dont make it seems like it's good for OP's 8700k. I would be doubtful on using the locked 8700 on it, not to mention the unlocked sku.

I'll still change the case. The front intakes on the current one is so blocked off, it's just going to circulate warm air around without drawing cold air in.
