PCs for a company

Hi there,

So I'm currently working on a business plan and I need to add PC components to be more precise of what budget I'm going to need, so in total I need optimal specs (so nothing overpriced but nothing slow working, really a good price/performance build) for following positions:

2D/3D Design - mostly 3DS max, will also use 3D tablet (something like wacom with screen, will also appreciate tips for this) - this may also be a hi-end laptop for them to be able to work from home

Programming (front-end, back-end, AI) - C++ / C# in Unreal Engine 4

Animation - probably will use MAYA

Game Design - primarily will focus in Unreal Engine 4

Audio - self explanatory

IT Specialist - will mostly work on servers, databases, SQL, web, and probably will help others if needed

Assistant - will assist the CEO in everyday work (mostly emails, paperwork, employee attendance etc.)

Thanks in advance to anyone who will help me with this

I recomend the Lenovo Legion Y520 Tower they are cheep but grate for game dev but if you need pc for cheep by a £50 to £100 pc and get a £100 GPU. it workes realy well and is cheep.

2D/3D design: Mid range Geforce card is enough for 3ds max, so it will be the 1060 6gb. For CPU side, Get the Ryzen 7 2700 for its 8 cores and pushing out most of its performance at stock (2700x runs a bit hot while being mildly faster). Might as well fit in 64GB of RAM just in case the design gets complex.

Programming: Compiling codes depend on single core performance more. Again, 8700. This time though even integrated graphics will do, though you might want some graphics card for more display outputs. 16GB RAM should be enough.

Animation: Ryzen 7 2700, multicore performance matters more here. A strong Geforce card works better than Quadro on Maya, but the 1070 class GPU dont outperform the 1060 6gb that much. So, still the 1060 6gb here. 32GB RAM should be more than enough

Game design: I cant find benchmarks for this one, though 8700 + 1060 6gb is always the safe bet.

Audio: This shouldnt be as hardware intensive as those above. i5-8400 with integrated graphics should be more than enough, though make sure the mobo has reserve PCIe x16 slots for the sound cards which I assume to be necessary. Also, 32GB RAM preferred, since it's better to have too much RAM than too little. Maybe get a pair of 16GB sticks for upgradability just in case 32GB isnt enough?

IT Specialist: These management tasks dont really need powerful hardware. maybe a cheap laptop so he can move around?

Assistant: Laptop for portability.

Common stuff: An SSD as boot drive. 1TB ones for desktops, ~250GB for laptops. Maybe some HDDs in RAID 1 for the desktops if there's no constant access to a data server.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Programming and Game Design have similar requirements. A high clock cpu, i7-8700. Lots of memory for Unreal Engine and VM, 2x16GB. A good motherboard, Asus Prime B360M-A. Lots of fast local storage, 1TB ssd, Samsung 860 Pro. Mid-range gpu, GTX 1060 6GB. At least one good higher res monitor, 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 IPS, >=27". Good keyboard and mouse. For quiet operation: non-stock cpu cooler, H7; case with good airflow, Meshify C Mini.

Audio: similar requirements to above except gpu could be something like GTX 1050 with 3840x2160 monitor. Good headphones/speakers. (While integrated gpu can do the job, a discrete gpu provides a much more responsive display.)

Animation: similar to above but with Quadro P5000 or P6000 gpu as they are officially supported. An alternative that would be better if cpu rendering would be a Ryzen 7 2700X on a X470 motherboard.

IT Specialist, Assistant: could go with something like an i5-8400, 8GB of memory, same motherboard, 250GB ssd, GTX 1050 with 2560x1440 monitor, good keyboard & mouse, non-stock cpu cooler, Meshify C Mini case.

Non laptop 2D/3D Design could use same specs as Animation workstation.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking that maybe for the 2D/3D designers I would rather buy a powerful laptop, so they could work from home as well, like a docking station at work and basic connections from home, or if the docking stations aren't too expensive then I'd buy them two, also I was looking at microsoft sufrace book 2 for 2D design

With the addition of a mouse surface book 2 should work. But depending on project complexity performance may be an issue. They are expensive, but good quality.

so anything better or similar to the surface book? that could handle drawing on screen + 3DS max rendering? or am I asking too much? thanks

I'm not well versed when it comes to table pc suitable for 3DS Max.

With multiple users, will they be working on the same project or related projects? If so, do you already have a LAN with appropriate storage and backups, as well as a media file management plan? If you think some of the users will work from home, do you have remote access or VPN capabilities on the LAN?

I do intend to have a own server, that's why I need the IT Specialist who will take care of these kind of stuff, since I will be on the business side. Everyone will be working on the same project, luckily my uncle is now a CEO at an IT Security company that provides services to the state's ministry of defense, national security office, ministry of finances, as well as the antivirus company ESET, so I think from the VPN or security side I'm safe, but back to the PC's
