for 1080p 60hz gaming - most demanding is black ops 3

£1000 - £1250

no peripherals needed including monitor

- should I get a smaller ssd, worse case and worse psu for better graphics card and cpu cooler

- is the current cpu cooler good enough (maybe overclocking in future but can save for upgrade)

- pcpartpicker says sata is disbaled if I use m.2

- can I install all my games on the ssd

- will I get 60fps+:

    csgo

    universe sandbox 2

    minecraft

    team fortress 2

    black ops 3

    titanfall 2

    rocket league

    life is strange before storm

    life is strange

    battlefront 2 (2005)

    fortnite

PS I

None of those games are particularly demanding, you could get by fine with very low specs. The 1070 in particular is quite overkill. A lot of people I feel like get the stigma that you have to buy high end if you want a decent experience, which isn't true at all. I have friends with 960 2GB and  1050ti's that run the same games I play with no issues.

I edited a few things:

Downgraded you to a 1060 6GB. Should be perfect for the games you listed in 1080p, and even 1440p. A 1070 is overkill, and with new cards on the horizon, I wouldn't buy it. Wait for next gen if you want to step up. Until then, a 1060 is perfect for your needs.

The Hyper 212 Evo is not good enough for the 8600k. I put an AIO on it, but you can put a good noctua tower cooler if you don't want liquid. Should be around the same price.

You had two separate 8GB sticks, you are going to want to have a 16 GB 4x4GB kit. They run together, and are faster.

You can get a copy of windows from a site called Kinguin, for about 25 USD, they are usually just ripped out of laptops. They are pretty legit, but if you want, there are tons of youtube videos about them.

I switched out your M.2 SSD for a Samsung 850 Evo 250GB (this will be your boot drive, and can house a few games), and I added a 2TB Hard Drive for bulk storage. The boot times for regular SSD's are very comparable to M.2 SSDs, and are sometimes faster.

You don't need to buy windows you can install it for free using microsoft's media creation tool

Should buy a case that actually has airflow

The 240mm AIO is probably a bit overall, should be fine with like a Cryorig H5/H7

Hi, thanks for your reply!

I changed the ssd for my preferred brand (WD)

I am really looking to buy everything from amazon or retailers, eg. pcworld.co.uk, that my parents know seeing as they are paying for it so i don't think they will trust kinguin for windows

Other than that I like the changes! and will follow the list you suggested:

Yeah, the SSD change is fine.

I can understand the issues with kinguin, if your parents are buying everything. In that case, just suck it up and pay the full price I suppose.

Hold on, on the part list, it shows that you manually changed the price of the 1060 to 335, and the 1070 was 350. If the difference for you is only 15 dollars, then by all means get the 1070. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/92gckd

1. Your SSD is fine, your case is fine, please don't skimp on the PSU, your cooler is fine, and your GTX 1070 is fine

2. I have an 8600K with a Hyper 212, and it's fine for overclocks.

3. I can't answer that one.

4. Yes, I've installed my games on my SSD.

5. CSGO, Minecraft, TF2, Rocket League, and Fortnite easily. I'm not sure about the other games.

It's ahead in games, but at the cost of multi-threaded performance should it ever be useful for you. And the soldered IHS is nice for cooling, could also save a bit more and get a cheaper ASrock Pro4 board. The 240mm AIO isn't needed either as the ryzen stock cooler is fine.

The microsoft store works fine in unactivated windows as far as I can tell if that's what you meant.

X470 also gets you StoreMI which is fairly neat tech, if you wanted a 240GB SSD with 2TBs of storage, but still wanted it all accelerated

Ah. Yeah that'll do it. Well other than that, stick with the legit copy. But do keep in mind, depending on who you buy your copy of windows from, it might still be the same copy as what you would get for 1/4th of the price from kinguin.

And yes, you are right, as of right now AMD is still behind Intel in gaming performance. However, you might want to think ahead:

AMD is slowly gaining on Intel, especially with Intel's 10nm issues. AMD is on 7nm. If you were to go with an AMD CPU, you wouldn't really lose that much gaming performance (Especially on a 60hz monitor), and you would be able to future proof your system a little more by going with a motherboard that will be future compatible up to 2020. Right now, intel is only ahead because of their single core lead. That might not continue for much longer.

At any rate, its your decision. People will fight about AMD processors for hours, so just choose what you want. Here are two part lists for each side:

Intel: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/7bn4gw

AMD: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/hxLXfH

Also: I added the 2TB HDD again, just in case. Having bulk storage is good, and there is no reason to keep everything on an SSD. You can also remove the AIO on intel's side and get a hyper 212, but as far as I am concerned, having a good cooler on such an overclockable processor is paramount.

As for AMD, their included cooler is actually pretty good. You can get another cooler if you need, but the stock is fine.

Case: InWin 303 Motherboard: Asus TUF X570-Plus Processor: Ryzen R9-3900x GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ram: 32 GB DDR4 3000 MHZ

A valid point, I think then if it's more future-proof I will go ryzen (though my mate helping me build it will hate me)

There's a compatibility issue with the cooler on the build but as @Streetguru says it might not need a better cpu cooler, I might not include one and just get a better one for Christmas if stock is not enough.

There are 3000MHz 2x8GB kits for £30 less than the one you've selected. You also get more room for upgrades with 8GB sticks.

Change the PSU for the Formula 450W for £60.

Use the cash you save to get the 500GB MX500.

Consider the 2600, if it's just for gaming. Alternatively, the 2700, and just overclock it.

There's cases that are similar with still alright airflow if your focus is on silence

Also you're going to want to use 2 sticks of memory for the best speeds. anything over 3000mhz isn't going to be major though.

Would get a bit better SSD maybe, that one's pretty bare minimum. WD Blue at least
