Need A Quiet Cooler for i5 8600k

c00lFD

I'm building another PC and this time I'm moving from ryzen to coffee lake. I also wanted to go with air cooling, since I'm using a H500P Mesh for airflow. What cooler can I get for under 50 that will be quiet and cool when overclocked?

i would go liquid?

liquid would be worse in this case. Cheap air coolers perform as good as expensive liquid coolers, and op's budget is 50 $.

oh ok, because the liquid cooler does have fans on it?, so it could work well in his case, its not really chunky, it does usually cool better than an air cooler and, has a more elegant design. but if no i personaly would go witht the be quiet dark rock 4, or 4 pro

I want to go with air, that's why I said air cooler. I'm currently running a water cooler, I just want an air cooler for this case, as that's what would look best.

If you want to go maybe 4.5 - 4.6Ghz, then I'd opt for the Cryorig H5 or something like the Noctua NH-U14s. You'll want a good 140 mm unit if you want to go over 4.3 Ghz full time. 120 mm units are simply not going to be capable enough, no matter what model you choose. There is just not enough overall heat exchange on those units.

If you can stretch your budget by $5 check out the Cooler Master MA620P.  I bought one when I got my 8700k to hold me over until I get time to delid and build a custom loop and I'm really impressed with it, barely audible at idle and quiet enough at full load.

They should have wasted less of design time to inventing name/look.

For all its big size protruding over DIMM slots struggling against Cryorig H7 without any of those clearance issues is mediocre:

Neither is Acrtic Freezer 33 exactly big:

While cheaper Scythe Mugen 5 also without clearance issues goes against many bigger heatsinks and AIOs with single 1200rpm fan...

I'll probably just uses a Hyper 212, Its something I'm familiar with, Ive used it many times, and it works great. I'll probably just upgrade to better fans.

That's not very quiet and isn't going to provide much room for oc'ing. Better fans won't improve cooling much. The Mugen 5 Rev. B is much quieter and is similar in performance to dual towers such as the NH-D14.

I can confirm that, was going to reuse my Hyper 212 until I got my WC parts but these hex core chips run hot and with no OC and a high fan curve I was seeing temps in the mid 80s.

The Cryorig H7 is perfect. I's deadly quiet in idle 400rpm. 1200rpm under more heavy load. Most underrated cooler on the market.

It's far from underrated. It's the 3rd most popular cooler on PCPP and the 4th highest rated.

Noctua is a  Austrian company, so it will obviously be very popular in Austria and neighbouring countries (or the EU in general).

Although, the Cryorig is very popular back here as well ;)
