Single player Dayz Alternative

I really love the look of DayZ, but as it's in Alpha and it's multi-player only, I'm still really on the fence about it. Are there any single player alternatives to DayZ? I already have State of Decay, but are there any others. Is S.T.A.L.K.E.R any good? Zombies are a preference though.

What's wrong with multilayer? It's where games are heading now a days. Standalone has it's bugs but its actually really good and I now prefer it over the original mod, I spent over 1000 hours on the mod so that's a bold statement from me.

Stalker is amazing, just make sure to install the Complete mod for Shadow of Chernobyl (it vastly improves visual quality and performance without changing the core game). Unfortunately the Call of Pripyat complete mod is very buggy.  IMO don't get Clear Sky, it has the same exact levels as Shadow of Chernobyl with an extremely annoying faction system.

I was mostly joking. Disabling automatic health regen ups the difficulty quite a bit, though.

GooD idea!. Or maybe COOP too, if you want to play only with another friend it would be good to create a own private match, and if you want to play singleplayer that would be good idea too
