Charging my Laptop

Does the vent on my laptop need to be exposed while turned off and charging, or is it ok if it is covered?

I wouldn't cover any vents, just in case anything happens.

UPDATE: SPECS UPGRADED DUE TO CASEMOD, 8GB DDR2 800, AMD Phenom X4 9650, Zalman CNPS5X Performa, Biostar GF8200C M2+, AMD Radeon HD 7450 GDDR5 edition, Samsung Spinpoint 250GB 7200RPM HDD, Antec HCG 400M 400W Semi Modular PSU, Windows 8.1 Pro, 80mm Cooler Master fan, Dell Inspiron 530 Case modded for better cable management and support for non Dell boards.

No, but DON'T cover powerbrick. Those things get really hot while charging. I've almost killed one. It needed to cool down before laptop accepted charging again.

Under no circumstances should you purposely cover the air vents of your laptop.

When a laptop power adapter is plugged in to a laptop (and the laptop is turned on), you will notice the adapter may be warm to the touch. The more the laptop gets used, the warmer the adapter may become. A relatively warm power adapter is normal, especially when the laptop is being used and the battery is being charged. All that heat needs to be evacuated to prevent damage to your device and - in the worst case - even fire. Therefore you should never cover the power adapter (the power 'brick') so heat dissipation is never hindered.

my laptop has the vent and charging port on opposite sides meaning if i want to charge it in my backpack the vent has to point down
