CPU Cache Inquiry!?!

So I have my CPU OC to 5.0 at 1.350v, RAM at 3200mhz. Would it benefit me to OC my CPU cache as well? Right now its at 4.2, but im wondering if I increase it as far as I can without it BSOD, will it make everything just a little more stable and running smoother? Or just keep it at 4.2? Any input would greatly help and is appreciated! Thanks.

How do you OC cache?   Which level cache?  I wasn't aware cache could be at a different clock rate than the execution engine (core).

I'd leave it, unless you are competitively benchmarking where every little detail could help.

L3 cache, alternatively called uncore. It is typically slower than the core clock if left at default. For Intel CPUs, I haven't seen much gain on ring cache CPUs from overclocking it unless you use really high speed ram. It makes a bigger difference on mesh cache.

I thought uncore was only the memory controller hub and systen agent.  Thanks.

Ive been told that CPU cache is faster then RAM actually. huh I guess not? Increasing it helps, so ive heard as well haha

It can be faster while at lower clock - as it is closer (logically and physically) latency can be lower. Also I'm not sure how it is connected, but if it is "wider" the bandwidth could still be higher too.

 

Skylake-X mesh cache is a new game though, and I think software is still working out how best to use that.

Usually its a good idea to keep the Cache clock within 500MHz from the Core clock. Having higher difference may impact the performance.

@WereCat So since I have my OC on my CPU at 5.0, I should set my CPU cache to about 4.5 or 4.6? Its currently at 4.2.
