3 ram sticks

I now have 3 ram sticks for my system. Where do I need to insert them and are there any drawbacks in using 3 sticks ? Its ddr3 btw

No drawbacks at all just to make you aware though you will be still running dual channel not triple channel .

you wont get dual channel speeds with 3 sticks but 99% of workloads this doesn't really matter anyway.

you insert them in the DIMM slots on the motherboard; if the motherboard supports DDR3. They should be near the CPU and fairly obvious; just look for the sticks already installed and be careful to insert them the correct way.

As much as people are probably going to complain "OH NO IT'S NOT GOING TO RUN DUAL CHANNEL", the difference is not going to be present in every day operation. Even in gaming, it's arguable whether it makes a bigger difference than a 2-4 FPS.

The RAM slots are adjacent to the CPU socket. Look for the big heat sink at the top of the motherboard, and you'll see four memory slots next to it.

Since you arenot filling all the available RAM channels, read your motherboard's manual to see which specific slots you should fill first. Placing RAM in the incorrect slots could result in some performance degradation.

 

Make sure you shut down your computer and unplug all of the cables connected to it before you install the RAM.

Also, make sure the memory module is correctly oriented: the notch in the bottom edge of the RAM must match up with the rise in the memory slot.
