Edit: And sure enough, the account was compromised. Luckily I managed to cancel the transaction before it was claimed.

 

Moral of the story: obvious scams are obvious.

This is definitely a scam. Please don't buy into it since you will support this type of scamming behaviour.

Even if eBay refunds your money, the scammers will still come out on top. The money that you possibly get back comes from eBays's own pocket, not from the scammers

Anything on EBay that is 5-20% of the total cost is 95% a scam.

 

Contact the seller first and check.

 

If they don't reply, don't buy. If they have a sketchy story, don't buy.
