Some features need them to function (e.g. You need intel ME drivers to OC from the OS). You don't really need them for the most part though; I don't have them installed.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Just wondering... Built a new PC for a girlfriend. Everything is running and working... USBs, front-panel connections, ethernet and what not. So is there any advantage (maybe even performance-wise?) in installing chipset drivers?

Certain functionality won't work until you do. Though if the system is running fine otherwise, it's probably not a big deal. And Windows will likely pull one in anyway on the next update cycle.

Windows detects them automatically but i would always download the latest on the motherboards website. Especially with ryzen

Its a non-k processor, so no OC. It does have compatibility for Intel Optane Memory, but it's not something she uses (just regular SSD.)

I'm not sure what functionality it would be, though, other than Intel Optane Memory. As long as it doesn't actually affect performance from any of the "important hardware" (CPU, GPU, RAM - it's for gaming), I'm not sure I should bother (built it yesterday and I'm not at her place anymore.)

Fortunately, it's not Ryzen.

Almost all motherboard chipset functionalities are just that, functionalities. Either you have them or you don't and neither option affects the performance of the system per se.

Great, thank you. Just gonna leave it as-is then. :)
