HDD Dock Simple Questions

koji

I'll be using my 2nd laptop as a fixed PC my room but I dont have much space for storage so I am planning to use and HDD Dock so I could expand the storage. I'm planning to use it as a permanent storage and will never unplug it.

Now I'm searching at our local shop here in my country and the only one available is from Orico. ( LINK )

Now, I have both 1TB and 2TB HDD.

My questions,

> Will that show separately as Drive D: and Drive E: ?

> Or will that show as one Drive D: with a total of 3TB?

> Or will that only use one of the two HDDs?

I have no experience using one so please pardon if you think the questions are dumb. Thank you!

Won't performance be dipped a bit? But if you're just storing that shouldn't matter.

I have the same dock sold under a different brand, works good for temporary use but I would get a couple external enclosures for permanent use.  The drives have a bit of wiggle to them and will sometimes disconnect if you bump the desk too hard.

I did a bit of research, some say that the max transfer rate of the drive is still less than the transfer rate of 3.0 so if it's 3.0 then it should be around the same speed. Maybe be dipped a bit but unnoticeable I guess?

I will mount it on my wall so it wont be sitting on my desk. Hehe. I hope this will be a permanent one. xD Thank you!!

Oh, it just came to me. Maybe the performance will be dipped by a margin if I use both drives simultaneously since they're only going through one connection.

It really hurts performance, was seeing around 25MBs read and write with two WD Reds

Do you know how fast it is usually with just 1 drive?

Maybe 70-80MBs, it's not the best but I only use mine for data recovery and a occasional backup.  I'm telling you external enclosures are the way to go, you should be able to find two decent ones for the same price as the dock.
