Your phone backup.

Sync is backing up your phone to google service so when you log in with another phone it will sync when internet is available.

It is a useless feature you likely won't ever use. I turn it off to conserve battery. I don't change phones too often and when I do, I manually installed all the apps. If I do need it, I would sync before switching, I don't need to sync it every day.

No notification would be missed if I use battery saver which turns off sync to conserve battery?

Turning off sync might stop instant messages from coming through and will stop the sync of all accounts so email won’t auto sync and google accounts won’t auto sync too

Workstation:

Intel Core i7 6700K | AMD Radeon R9 390X | 16 GB RAM

Mobile Workstation:

MacBook Pro 15" (2017) | Intel Core i7 7820HQ | AMD Radeon Pro 560 | 16 GB RAM

Major loss would be lack of instant notifications by email. You would have to do it manually and check your email more frequently.
