Hey guys so I had bought a HP Compaq 8100 sff that has an i5-650 and 8gb ram, but I wanted to upgrade it asap. But the thing is, I heard that the motherboards (some) are not-traditional/standard ATX/MATX size, I don't know much about motherboard size so I was wondering if anyone could identify whether this is an ATX or mATX or if it's some kind of factory-specific sized motherboard so I can get one that'll fit in a ATX midtower case. I want to re-use this motherboard in a different case so I was wondering if I could, provided that it's a tradtional/real ATX or mATX board.

ALSO (Extra help) - I need to upgrade my PSU because I want to get a 1060/1050ti, but I can't since this original HP case has a built-in/non swappable PSU, I want a FULLY-modular PSU at 450-500w's (AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE PLEASE), and I want to know what's better for a low-VERY LOW MEDIUM size budget gaming PC... A 1050 or a 1060? What's better (obviously the 1060) but what I mean is what's most worth it for the money. I can get a 1050 4gb for 200$, but I could also get a 1060 3gb for 250$. Is the performance difference really that worth an extra 50$? I don't expect to play any games over 720/1080p, medium-high settings.

ALTERNATIVES - If someone could give me a budget build of around 300-400$ (excluding keyboard mouse monitor harddrive and ram, wifi stick and bluetooth stick). I am reallllllllly cheap too so lower = better for me

Have you considered getting a low profile variant of the 1050ti? that way you could keep the same case and probably that same PSU (the 1050ti doesn't need a dedicated power connector)

First forget upgrading the motherboard it is from Foxxconn you can only upgrade to a MOBO from an 8200 sff, or an 8300 sff, the PSU is also nonstandard and needs to stay, and also the fastest GPU you can stick in there is a 1050ti, you can also a 1050, or a 1030, for the 8200 sff MOBO you can grab an intel core i5 2500, and with the 8300 sff you can grab an intel core i5 3470.

I was going to buy a brand new case and PSU and a GPU but just move the mobo ram and storage to the new case... Is that a good idea? or just get a 1050ti?

(can i even use this mobo in a new case?)

Just get the 1050ti, though with that build a 1050 is a better option.

why is the regular one better? would my computer not run well with the TI? I really wanted as much performance as possible, but if the difference in performance isn't massive, then theres no reason right?
but i heard more games benefit from the extra 2gb ram

that CPU is 8-9 years old it simply does not have the power to keep up with a 1050 ti, the value just isn't there, it's questionable whether that CPU could keep pace with a 1050, if you want to add a 1050 ti I recommend that you upgrade to at least an intel core i5 2500 and the MOBO from the 8200 elite, otherwise you are just burning cash.

Do you recommend just buying a whole new system instead? I currently have 150$, and my birthday is coming up soon in june. I'm not sure I'll get a lot, but with the ram and storage I have right now, is it just worth it buying a system? or just buy a 1050 like you said to.

350-550$? I'm not going to buy all the parts at once though, what I'm probably going to do is buy the essentials (mobo case cpu, and just use my ddr3 ram), and then buy a gpu later down the line. so having a cpu that has integrated graphics is useful for me so I can use it while I'm waititng for the gpu. @Wh0_Am_1

How about this? It has an intel core i7 7400 and a 1060.

It's good, but probably out of my budget over all. I wanted to create my own system because I heard it's cheaper (and I've noticed that it is), but I'll consider this, thank you.

Ok Price to performance the 8300 elite and 8200 elite with a 1050 ti is a much more appealing option, but they are older PCs.

Yeah if you are willing to bear the risks of an older system I would recommend an 8300 elite SFF with a 1050 ti.

If you do go with the older PC option, you could also upgrade your current PC with a gtx1030 and then play with family members or friends. Just an idea.

That's a good idea, but for now I'm still looking for options. I was wondering, can you suggest me the Cheapest Modular psu  you can possibly? (400-500w) (cheap as in price, not quality)... I plan on getting a 1050ti/1060 if I do get my own parts.

The 8300 elite can take a 1050 ti without any PSU upgrades, but in case you do plan to build your own PC I will look for an cheap power supply.

Your welcome, just note that the 8300 elite sff has a proprietary PSU, so with that build you are stuck. If you want a prebuilt that you can upgrade the PSU on you would need something like this.

Ok this is the cheapest high quality semi-modular PSU I could find from a reputable manufacturer. (Semi-modular means that all essential cables that you absolutely need are permanently installed into the PSU, meanwhile all nonessential cables can be detached.)
