How Do i overclock my cpu

Go to solution Solved by Kushagra_kj10,

If you have a unlocked CPU you meet the first requirement then u need a overclockable motherboard (usually the ones which have B or Z in them like B350 etc). If you meet both requrements the you r good to go.

Open the BIOS and change the clock speed which you may experiment a lot cuz it won't blow ur CPU it will just crash but increasing the volts and wattage is something you should try not to experiment with too much.

Happy overclocking

A good start is listing what you have and what you're expecting from it

Locked multiplier so all overclocking will be done be increasing the bus speed. But even then, that chip wouldn't benefit much from an overclock.

I'm Excepting It to run ARK survival Evolved or GTA 5

Can you list all your components please?

That would make it easier to give you advice

Get a Ryzen 5 2400g and an mSI B350 PC Mate.

Total price = about $250

He'll need RAM, so that's a no go unless he has more money to spend.

True true...at least 12GB too. Somehow I overlooked that.

For $250 I would say he could keep an eye on eBay for deals on Haswell combo kits (like a 4460 and a B85 motherboard or somthing similar) and then check for a used GPU also.

With that he can re-use his RAM and stay under $250 for an upgrade that will outperform what he has now!

First you need a motherboard and a CPU that allows you to overclock. So for a motherboard, just look up the name of yours on google and see if you can overclock on it. As for CPU, for intel, usually the mainstream CPU will have a K at the end of the name, for example is the I7-8700k, a non overclock able CPU would be like a I7-8700.

What about a GPU

I have about a $250 USD budget and will upgrade Motherboard

With that budget I would look for a used GPU on eBay. A model that, after buying the Haswell combo (CPU + motherboard), fits the remainder of your budget.
