What psu do you recommend then? Thanks :)

If you need to save as much as possible the 2017 CX or Grey Label CXM are decent enough.

Will the Corsair vs450 do for a pc with these specs? Thanks :)

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

Ram: Corsair lpx vengance 16gb 3000

Board:  B350 tomahawk Arctic

Hdd: 1tb western digital (7200rpm)

Ssd: 120gb Kingston a400

I recommend you replace the 1600 with a 1500X or 1400 and get a better PSU. You probably aren't doing anything that will make use of 6 cores and 12 threads. The VS450 isn't very good.

That said, what GPU are you powering? You didn't list that and that's the most important component for measuring power draw.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Ah, with a GTX 980 you should get a better PSU for sure. A Corsair TX550M is a good unit that can power your system and is inexpensive.

Which VS450 are you looking at?

This one?

Or this one?

The one on the bottom is much better than the one on the top.

And it's highly unlikely either of them are just "going to go pop".  Ignorant, in fact.  And lacking any kind of insight.  If Corsair sold a product with a five year warranty where the majority "went pop", they would lose money on returns and replacements.  Are people really that stupid?

A bad Photoshop job.

Any of the VS's with the black/gray label are HEC.  Full range.  The ones with the green or orange labels are the 230V only CWT version that got discontinued over a year ago (except the 350W.   There was no improved 350W version available that would cost any less to make than the 450W, so a one time huge order of the CST based 350W was made, but those are mostly for SI's.)

what the Guru said, the bottom one of what he posted will be better

about psus exploding... that's unlikely to happen, unless you short the wires on purpose, or maybe if you remove the fan or the transformer heatsinks while you load the PSU at its max, that won't happen. Plus you'll not be powering a 780Ti SLI with it so it's perfectly fine

folks who think PSUs below titanium tier are junk should know not everyone has rich parents and "regular" PSUs will not blow just bc are "cheap" (under $200)

man some will say if you open a PSU you'll instantly die like if there's a bomb inside or something like that lol

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB
