sorry for the lack of clarity, i keep seeing lga 1155 motherboards on ebay from china for about 60 dollars, and do you guys actually think they work or are they just garbage o' trickery?

As long as it's not the 1€ boards that just send you a pen. They will work but are usually rebranded boards with NO support. It's a risky move and I would recommend against it. If you're on a tight budget go for second hand.

Why are you even asking this question, how would we know? If you send us a specific link, we'd be able to tell you what's fake and what's not. 

 

But I don't understand why you think a $60 lga 1151 motherboard should be fake, it's a pretty reasonsable price for such an old motherboard.

Don't see why they wouldn't work. I mean...LGA 1155 is Sandy & Ivy Bridge so not exactly cutting edge anyway.

 

Here in the UK you can buy an LGA 1155 board from eBay for £40 ($54).

 

As has been said above, you just won't get any support for it.

One thing that gives me a red flag is on the thing it says "Tool"... Gives me a large red flag since they could easily get away by just giving you the tool.

$60 for a used one is a decent price for an old mid range board

This one though could be a worse deal than used ones. It's not the first time Chinese factories produce old tech new (huanan x79 for example), but this one doesn't even have a brand name (or the picture is being rendered rather than a real object), so it's more questionable.

Those boards are real, they are legit, they are not rebrands, and if all you want to do is run a compatible CPU at stock speeds and voltage, they're perfectly fine. There's virtually nothing in the way of support for them, so if they're going to die, they'd better do it in 30 days or less so eBay's guarantee can be used.

 

For the basic chipsets (anything on LGA 775 or an 115X socket), they're perfectly fine for the job. If you're going for "specialty" chipsets like X58, X79 or X99, you're going to get some weird-ass Frankenboard made from a different chipset entirely (P55 for X58, P67 for X79, etc.) and designed to run 1366 or 2011 CPUs. If you want to overclock, just buy a real board. These things have virtually no VRM cooling to speak of, and they are not designed for anything more than a stock load. Even at stock, a downdraft cooler is not a bad idea just to keep the VRM temps down.

 

If you really need a brand-new LGA 1150, 1155 or 1156 board and you don't need to do much with it, these are adequate. For anything else, just buy a used one from the big four.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

so can you reccomend anything that may be overclock just a little bit? i have a REALLY small budget...
