You can't mix different types of ram on the same channel I believe.

Try putting the 4g cards on the same channel slots and the 8g cards on the same channel slots.

Mostly slots with the same colour are the same channel.(If not, look in your manual)

It doesnt matter. If he mixed them on the same channel it just wouldn't run in dual-channel. It's something else, not sure what.

Oh, I always thought you couldn't mix different sticks in the same channel... well, I don't know what it is then.

Maybe do a BIOS update?(if you know how)

You can't mix sticks while attempting dual, triple, or quad channel.

Bios updates are typically pretty easy in newer platforms.

With 2 identical sticks (either slots 1+3 or 2+4), boot up and turn off XMP. Then add the other two sticks and see if that boots. If so, then try turning on XMP. If it still doesn't boot, boot however you can and try XMP + manually setting speed to 3000 and see if that boots. Compatibility isn't 100% at that speed range and the two might be different enough that the mobo can't work out stable timings when both are present. Dropping a speed step or two can help.
