so I just got a Z906 and I had no idea I needed a sound card to use it. it came with a double sided black/pink/green cable so I thought I could just use that but when I do I get no sound. can I use it just 2 speakers and the sub? (2.1 mode)

I really don't want to get a sound card I just spent all my cash on this so I cant even afford a $50 sound card.  i know you need the optical cable to use it in 5.1 or so I read.

also it says you can use it with a phone but how? i know there is an aux on the controller. do you need it hooked up to a pc to use your phone via aux? or can I just use it alone?

Like to gamble?

Give me $10, ill give you $5 back.

im just like a casino

how? i have read online and because its like dolby surround sound you need to use an optical cable, and my mobo has no optical port. everything says I need a sound card to get a optical port.

again like I said I tired the black/pink/green and it didnt work and it has no other cords it came with. and everything I google says optical cable I dont see anything on plugging it in any other way. when i test the speaker via the test function all of them make a static sound showing they in fact work.

You do not need a sound card, unless the audio on your motherboard is non functional. I would make sure the audio device is correctly selected on your PC, I would also then make sure that the mute isn't enabled and that the volume isn't set too low. Make sure everything is firmly plugged in and that the sub is getting power.

the Z906 comes with those cables for left, right and mic as they'll be more widely accessible than optical. You can use all the speakers but if you are using the cables provided with the system, you will not get true surround sound. If you wish for surround sound, you will need to get an optical cable and if your board does not have an optical out or digital coaxial, you will then need a sound card that has either.

As for using your phone, I've not done this, but you could use a headphone jack from the phone to the sub? The controller has an audio and mic out and no other connections apart from the connector from the controller to the sub.

i did look in the playback devices and no new device popped up when I had it plugged in, I closed and looked probably like 10 times and still no new audio device, only my HTC vive, headphones and moniter show up, all the cables are in all the way as all the speakrs make a noise when I hold down input for 5 sec to test all the speakers. volume was not muted as I could hear it from my headphones.

i only want to use three speakrs center and front left and right along with with the sub. while gaming.

also in the manual it says the bottom jack on the controller is a AUX jack

There's a way to get sound playing through both if you're using RealTek. Try to disable "Front panel jack detection". This will make the front and rear jacks play the same stream in the Realtek program and if you do not use RealTek, I'd look to see if it has anything similar to this.

As for using only the 3 front speakers, you can only use them. I believe it's the 2.1 option.

":Works with any device with either a headphone jack (3.5mm), RCA, six-channel direct, digital coaxial input or optical inputs"

You can get surround by simply plugging the cables in to match the spec of your computer and the speakers. Consult the motherboard/computer manual and the speaker manual to figure that out.

Also, money best spent at that price point may be a good stereo setup with powered monitors or headphones.

Sorry, was offline for awhile. I would use your headphones to see if the back works? If could be the provided cables are busted, it could be the jacks on your board are busted.

As the Ninja of quick suggested and if you've not given up on the speakers yet. Can you specify the motherboard you're using?

If the board audio at the back is malfunctioning, you can get a 2nd hand sound card for pretty cheap.
