I was in the Tesla showroom in Santa Monica and I sat down in the model 3 - and I look at the display and see that you can search music, and everything I could think of was there. How does that work? Does the Tesla have cell reception? And however its done, is it a service with a monthly fee? Also, any other Tesla facts you have (Specifically regarding the Model 3 wait list) would be appreciated.

It's most likely cell service. There are many cars out there have actual mobile hotspots built in so it's not too much of a surprise. Of course, you'll have to pay a monthly fee for cell service just like your cell phone.

mobile hotspot possibly? monthly service to purchase like other automakers do.

Shit. It's going to be my Mom's car, so I can pretty much guarantee we're not paying for the hotspot. Do you know if you can use any service provider? Because if so, we might be upgrading to unlimited data soon - so there's a possibility we could put the car on that and have CAR WIFI.

Ask your Tesla dealer for the most accurate answer.

I believe it comes with a 4 year subscription of slacker though you can load your own music in via USB and of course stream through bluetooth using your phone. Though to get a more accurate answer, you should  ask one of the salespeople next time you're at the showroom.

unlikely, as most dedicated hot spot devices are excluded from family cellular plans.

Pretty sure you can tether a wifi signal with your phone and have the tesla use that.

Friend of mine can get tesla car updates via cell service or home wifi connection
