Overpriced Repairs

I have a laptop with a dead SD card slot.

I contacted the manufacturer and they said that it will cost $130 while a USB dongle costs only $10

Would you fix the laptop or just buy a USB dongle?

Why would you want to fix it by manufacturer? You are better off fixing it in some local shop or something.

Because the manufacturer's store is the closest to the place I live compared to other local shops.

I feel like if you seriously don't care about have a dongle then just get a dongle, plus unless you are a full-time photographer or someone who has to use the SD card slot all the time 130 bucks seriously isn't worth it, you might want to check other shops as well before making the final decision.

Unless you have some sort of 8 year warranty I’d say no.

9/10 times, the dongles are a much better investment even if they’re sticking out of the laptop.

Factory repairs always cost more. I do expect something this expensive to come with 5 years of warranty.

I'd just use a dongle, not really inconvenient anyway.

No only 1 year unless you pay more and you can only have 3 years at the maximum

Well that explains why it's so expensive. Apple makes products hard to repair and that sucks :(

Okay, now that we know which device you're talking about....

No, just no. It's not worth it. Get a dongle.

Does the Macbook have USB ports? Or will you need to connect the dongle to your dongle?
