What makes 7700k better over 2700k

So yes, obviously 7700k is better than 2700k because it's newer. But why? 7700k and 2700k both have same number of cores, threads and cache. So what makes it preform better?

More instructions per cycle, higher clock speeds, afaik it's more power efficient at identical clocks

And more importantly higher IPC (instructions per cycle) So it does more per clock. For example, the 7700k would be faster at 4Ghz than the 2700k at 4Ghz.

and IPC (Instructions per cylce) it means if theyre both at 4ghz, the i7 7700k will still perform alot better :)
