I can think of two options:

- the drive is failing. Check its integrity.

- some antivirus or antimalware software is identifying the files in question as malicious, and therefore deleting them or moving them to some form of quarantine.

You can check its S.M.A.R.T. status using programs such as Speedfan and (I believe) HWInfo, and you can run chkdsk on the drive. If it's not your boot drive, you can do it from Windows by right-clicking on it -> tools tab -> Error-checking.

A good starting point would be checking cabling, ports, and running diagnostic software.

Try the drive with a different cable & try it in a different port to see if the issue replicates itself there.

Run a diagnostic software. Ours is free & dubbed SeaTools, it can run on any brand HDD, however keep in mind that if the drive is from another manufacturer & the goal is to RMA/warranty it, then most manufacturers will make you run their own diagnostic software anyways as part of that process.

I use Crystal disk info and the result is good.
