M.Yurizaki is correct. You don't need hardware designed for packet sniffing. To my knowledge pretty much all adapters are compatible with promiscuous mode (unless you wanted to send interrupt packets to capture 4-way handshakes then not all adapters are compatible). What you need is software and Wireshark is among the most popular. So any adapter should do depending on what transmitter you're using. I don't know anything about yagi antennas.
