In computes, there's only 3 or 4 screw types used.
UNC 6-32 imperial 6 32 threads per inch (the screws used for mechanical hard drives, screwing power supply to case etc) , most often to screw mb to case, cards to case etc
M3 - metric 3 , used for optical drives, less often for screwing mb to case
M2 - for SSD
UNC 4-40 imperial 4 - 40 threads per inch ... the screws on VGA and DVI connectors you use to lock cables to video cards etc
There's no other standards, so the motherboard should use either M2 or M3 or UNC 6-32 ... try a 6-32 if it's too thick to fit it, then most likely it's a M3 ... if the M2 screw is very loose inside then your screw is definitely M3. (6-32 bigger than M3 which is bigger than M2).
