Sorry for the Terrible quality, my phone is crap

Anyways, this was a PC i built for a client 3 years ago, its an FX 8320E 16gb of ram an Asus M5A78L, an R9-280X 3gb Vapor X, and a Corsair CX600M
As you can see from the video its weirding out heavily, it runs fine sometimes, sometimes does it, it started happening yesterday after 3 years of use
temps on cpu never go past 45c (its runing a D92 cooler),  and gpu rarely goes past 75c (even maxin out fallout 4 wich is what my client mostly plays)
glitches occure when Gpu gets Taxed,
im pretty sure the PSU is more than capable of driving the card, and everything is properly cooled, b4 installing fresh windows, it woudlnt let me try any other card as with any other gpu windows refused to load (bsod while loading), just did a fresh install drivers and anything, will try the other Gpus next  (got an HD 3870 and a GTX 9800X2 i can test with)

Any ideas what could make this happen?, i cant valid his warranty as its been 3 years since i sold him the pc, i dont have any other psu i can test this with (well i got a CM Elite 550w but i think the gpu is too much for that as it its not even 80+ rated)

Artifacts, the GPU is most likely dying, time to buy a new one. Might be memory that's dying, however I'm not sure. Try downclocking the card until they get a replacement in the machine.

how could it be dying?, it was bought brand new, always on perfect mint condition, 90% of the time was gaming World of Warcraft wich wont even make the card go 100%, i mean the 11 year old HD3870 i got still runs like a champ

Some silicon dies sooner than others. Could be a single transistor has electromigration in the silicon from manufacturing tolerances. If you heat the GPU up to about 150°C the issue might go away for a while, but it'll enviably come back. I guess it's possible dust or something might be causing a short, clean it and change the TIM, but most likely the card won't be 100% working again.

i just ran the benchmark (Final Fantasy XIV RR Character Creation) for 4 loops (20 mins aprox) with 0 issuees now, b4 the windows install, it will do it even on games like AOE 2 HD (that put the card on 10%) and instantly crash the benchmark

I doubt that was caused by windows, however sometimes these glitches are not consistent, the most annoying problem to troubleshoot are intermittent faults. Electromigration is pictured here in this scanning electron microscope image of an interconnect in a silicon die, you can see the voids in the lighter coloured line, something similar is likely to have happened in the R9 280X

Best bet is to just get a new card, and sell the 280x on ebay to come at less of a loss.

depends on the faults, if it's something in the Vmem, you probably couldn't mine the worthwhile ASIC resistant coins, so not really worth while, it would cost more in power for an R9 280X also.

Problem is, this guy has money very tight at the momment as he is moving with his GF to a new house, so, i was going to Suggest a 1050ti (because performance is close) but the price of the 1050ti is crazy atm (its more expensive than this R9-280X was) so, yea

You could try getting the company to just RMA the card. Check if they will.

yea, most things like that will take 2 months to arrive, + the shipping costs will be huge, this machine can operate without a gpu via chipset graphics, since the HD3850 im testing is so outdated windows 10 wont let me get drivers for it fml, anyways, the machine is mostly used for Maya Rendering, , and gaming on the side, ill guess he doesnt have much choice

Can he go without a GPU for a month till he has money? It isn't that hard. Also what's Maya Rendering?

(Edit) - Oh that stuff looks like you would need a GPU.
