Another Monitor Question

I want to get two separate monitors. I am a streamer. I will have an HDMI switch for my XB1 S when I am at college. I am looking at 1440p 144hz IPS monitor (system specs in my sig.) If I opt to save some money and just get one monitor, using my XB1, would my screen scale down so my xbox picture wouldn’t even fill the whole screen or will it fill up the screen?
