inb4 mod moves/locks the thread. @TopHatProductions115 Thanks!

I've never rooted since Arrow Launcher is there to make any bullsh#t go away. Maybe I should take some of the old Androids that I've picked up and try rooting them.

Quote

Today, he [XDA Senior Recognized Developer Chainfire] has announced that all of his root-related applications are now end-of-life. That means they will no longer receive any development support from him, and in some cases, may disappear entirely.

Ever since Android version 1, rooting has been there for Android users that just needed to have more control over their device(s). And in such endeavours (that of which shall not be trivialized), Chainfire has been (and still is) one of the developers that was there every step of the way in bringing the benefits of rooting to the Android user-base art large. But, with the  recent announcements that have been made, it's only a matter of time before diehard Chainfire users will need to find a new solution. While many have already switched over to solutions like Magisk, there are others who still swear by Chainfire and his history of Android and Rooting prowess. To you all who do, know that you are still in good company. To those who have already switched over, please aid in making the transition easier for those who haven't done so already. It's been a good run thus far, and I can't wait to see what's next for the Android rooting community. To a brighter future for the Android Power-user Community

For those of you who really wanna show your age (Android development and such), here's a tiny challenge for you. In addition to your regular comment:

  • State what version of Android you began rooting with
  • State the oldest version of Android that you ever rooted
  • List 2 standard Android features that first started life as root-enabled tweaks/features before becoming officially available in AOSP or other ROMs.
    • Make sure to give the Android version the tweak/exploit was originally developed for, and the Android version that introduced it as a standard feature
  • Your favourite Android version and device (can be separate - doesn't have to be of the same device)
  • Also, #ChainfireSolute

Have fun ;)

I wonder how the Jailbreaking community's doing? I haven't been there in years (since iOS 4/5 transition)...

Dang, i haven't messed with rooting since my g2, but supersu was always my go to.

Sad to see great devs leave but he made a great impact

Fanboys are the worst thing to happen to the tech community World. Chief among them are Apple fanboys.

SuperSU is such an amazing tool for rooters, his talents will be surely missed.

Eh his solution was always closed up, and as mentioned above Magisk decided to take what he did, redo it open source and open it up to so much more of the community with Magisk modules.

I respect the dude and what he did for the Android community, but SuperSU and Magisk will continue to live on so he deserves a break.

Android 4.0 on the Galaxy Nexus.

2 features is hard. Probably color tuning, and heads up notifications would be my top two. The new Mouse Grab API in android 8.0 is also a strong contender.

Favorite Android version is 8.1 and favorite device is the Nexus 5 for nostalgia, although my Pixel XL is better from a modern perspective.

  • State what version of Android you began rooting with : First Android I ever rooted was an Acer A500 running Android 3.0 which was the first Android OS made for tablets.
  • State the oldest version of Android that you ever rooted: The oldest version of Android I ever rooted was Android 2.2 or 2.3 cant remember what version it was on when I rooted it but it was this device https://liliputing.com/2011/11/samsung-galaxy-player-5-0-first-look-video.html . A Samsung Galaxy player 5.0 Samsung's Answer to the iPod touch and was very rare for anyone to have one which made it very hard to root. If I remember correctly only a few models actually could be rooted and the only way to get it was to either import it or the way I got it which was from Woot they actually sold it months before it was released in the US for some reason and it was cool to have a device before most people could get their hands on it. Not only did I have it months before it was officially for sale in the US it was still very hard to find the 5 in model the one I had for sale at all when it was released which made it even more cool to own.
  • List 2 standard Android features that first started life as root-enabled tweaks/features before becoming officially available in AOSP or other ROMs. I can't think of anything off the top of my head right now.
  • Your favorite Android version and device (can be separate - doesn't have to be of the same device)  My favorite Android version is Android 8 and My favorite Android device was my LG G4 even though it got hit with the infinite boot loop failure.
  • Chainfire had a huge impact on the Android rooting scene and it's sad to see him go but there are other tools out now.
