Knowing what I know about thunderbolts and using it for an external graphics card I assume using a usb to thunderbolt adapter wouldn't work for using a external graphics card, but I decided to ask anyways and hope I am wrong. So does using a usb to thunderbolt adapter work when you plug in a external graphics card?

No way will it work, but if you worked long and hard enough and had the technical expertise, you might get it to work, but it'd be a waste of time.

USB requires connection to a USB Bus. The USB bus is usually attached to slow PCIe lanes (through the PCH). This adds latency that you wouldn't want.

Thunderbolt (at least in theory) are directly attached to high speed PCIe lanes which are directly attached to the CPU.
